Home Visit From Bayan Lepas
from the south of the island

From Bayan Lepas to UFOREA.

Wrap up the workday at Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone, pick up the kid from after-school care, and point the car north up the Coastal Highway. Thirty-five minutes later you're parked under Island 88. The afternoon belongs to them — and the chair in Cozy Nook is waiting for you.

~35 min drive 23 km · Coastal Highway No tolls on this route

The route, sketched.

North up the Coastal Highway — 23 km of mostly-straight road along the east edge of the island.

the drive

After-work, against the traffic.

From Bayan Lepas, the fastest route is the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway — the long straight coastal highway most Penangites just call the Coastal Highway. It runs almost the full east edge of the island, with the strait on your right and the hills on your left. There are no tolls. Three large interchanges (Bayan Baru, Sungai Pinang, Jelutong) but at after-school hours the traffic mostly flows.

You'll pass the Queensbay and Sunshine Bayan Baru malls, cross over the river at Sungai Pinang, then thread through the edge of George Town. Stay on the coastal road and it becomes Jalan Tanjong Tokong. UFOREA's home, Island 88, is the glass-fronted building set just back from the road — you'll see the wordmark on the upper floors. The whole drive is about 23 km. On a weekday at 4:30pm it's a comfortable 35 minutes; if you set off at 5:30, allow 45 to be safe.

a school-night plan

Beat the after-school slump.

This is the route most of our Bayan Lepas regulars run: skip the indoor-toddler-meltdown by the TV and route the late-afternoon energy into UFOREA instead. Here's the pattern that works for a school-night visit:

  1. 16:00 — Leave the office or pick up from school. Snack in the car on the way. Bayan Lepas to Tanjong Tokong against the bridge-bound traffic is the easier direction.
  2. 16:40 — Arrive at Island 88. Park, take the lift up. The 5pm window is calmer than weekend mornings — most other kids are still at dinner with their grandparents.
  3. 17:00 – 19:00 — Two hours of play. Long enough for the energy to come out, short enough that bedtime isn't a fight. Adventure Trails and Galaxy Zone are the high-output zones.
  4. 19:00 — Wind down with dinner. Either at Island 88's ground-floor cafés or on the drive home — there's a row of family-friendly places along Coastal Highway at Jelutong. Same-day re-entry is on your wristband if you want one more half-hour after.
  5. 20:30 — Home, in pyjamas, asleep by 21:00. A school-night routine that doesn't end in a screen.
Parking on arrival.

Island 88 has a multi-level car park directly under the building. First hour free; a small flat rate afterwards. Drop-off lane at the lobby — bring the kid's water bottle and a clean tee for the photo in Makeover Castle.
